Octopus for the New Year

Happy New Year, everyone!

Hard to believe that another year has gone by. And in honor of the 18th year of this century, I have here and octopus. I realize that octopi have eight arms and not 18, but let’s ┬ánot worry about that.

I started with a pencil sketch that started out very loose, then I gradually tightened up a bit.

I then inked it.

I was originally planning on leaving it black and white, but I eventually decided to apply a wash and some ink splatter.

The original piece is fairly large, and even with my large format printer, I had to stitch this together.

More birds, you say? Yes, I thought I’d continue to practice midtowns and halftone dots with out carrion eating friend here. Apologies for the short post, gentle reader, but it’s been a long week.

Self Portraits

When my mom sent me a Panettone, I did not realize that it would make me look so regal. You see, this Panettone came in a wooden crown type of  container, and my fiancee took a fine picture of me wearing my new headgear.

As you might expect, I used this opportunity to draw myself in many different styles. I used ink wash, digital colors in Photoshop and Illustrator, and just plain brush strokes.
