In my last semester of grad school, I learned how to make GIFs! The timing on this is perfect because I am working on a series of short, sock-puppet-themed movies called BoardSockEmpire. As cross promotion, I am creating these GIFs. Eventually, I will incorporate these into a scrolling cityscape, not unlike XZCD’s infinite scroll comic, though significantly smaller. In the meantime, I share with you now these GIFs.
Apologies for my absence lo these past weeks. It’s been a busy month! Here’s what’s going on:
-I got engaged
-I finished grad school
-I launched my new comic, Tomorrow Jerks -I am moving
-I went to LA for a weekend
And now I’d like to talk to y’all about Tomorrow Jerks, my new comic! It’s about about a couple of jerks and their Walrus buddy, yukkin’ it up in the future! The first chapter is up already and the second chapter is rolling out, one page a week! It’s free, Bee Tee Dubs. Here’re a couple o’ pages, to give you a taste. They’re unrelated:
Long time followers of this blog will know that I am a fan of fancy military helmets, particularly the Prussian Pickelhaube. I just happened upon this image, and it struck me as an opportunity to ink wash! I applied the color in photoshop.
(PS: if anyone finds a type-o in this post, my cat walked over the keyboard)
Helmets, hats, masks; all manner of facial coverings interest me. Samurai helmets are particularly riveting to me because of the artistry involved. Additionally, the face coverings emote dramatically, lending themselves to beautiful shadows.
I follow a very cool Instagram account by the name of OctoNation, and account that is all about octopi art and media. They posted a very cool sculpture of an octopus that really highlighted the eyes, and it inspired me to draw this.
I wanted to use the wash as a background element so the stark contrast would really foreground the octopus. The wash also makes an appropriate background for the octopus, who is able to squirt ink.
