An asset management software company called Pepper has commissioned a series of comics for their website, social media, blogs, etc. As a copywriter and illustrator, I come up with stirring copy then illustrate comics to accompany it. It’s a very fun and challenging project, and I am glad that people recognize comics not only as a respectable art form, but as a viable medium to convey practical ideas.

More Pickelhauben

A lot’s been going on: I’m working on multiple comics, writing copy, and trying to learn new illustration software.

To keep me grounded in these turbulent times, I go to my comfort zone: hats and helmets!

I found a great reference picture for these and decided that I’d use a wash on one and just use value on the other.

BoardSock Empire

In my last semester of grad school, I learned how to make GIFs! The timing on this is perfect because I am working on a series of short, sock-puppet-themed movies called BoardSockEmpire. As cross promotion, I am creating these GIFs. Eventually, I will incorporate these into a scrolling cityscape, not unlike XZCD’s infinite scroll comic, though significantly smaller. In the meantime, I share with you now these GIFs.

Tomorrow Jerks

Apologies for my absence lo these past weeks. It’s been a busy month! Here’s what’s going on:
-I got engaged
-I finished grad school
-I launched my new comic, Tomorrow Jerks
-I am moving
-I went to LA for a weekend

And now I’d like to talk to y’all about Tomorrow Jerks, my new comic! It’s about about a couple of jerks and their Walrus buddy, yukkin’ it up in the future! The first chapter is up already and the second chapter is rolling out, one page a week! It’s free, Bee Tee Dubs. Here’re a couple o’ pages, to give you a taste. They’re unrelated:

Cuirassier’s Lion Helmet

Long time followers of this blog will know that I am a fan of fancy military helmets, particularly the Prussian Pickelhaube. I just happened upon this image, and it struck me as an opportunity to ink wash! I applied the color in photoshop.

(PS: if anyone finds a type-o in this post, my cat walked over the keyboard)
